While engaging the vertical lock may allow the monopod to stand, it does not support free-standing function and should not be left unattended when not in use.The MVMXPRO500US also includes a modified 500 series fluid head which allows the user to tilt their camera forward and backward on a counter-balanced mechanism.Super smooth, easy to switch between that mode and the upright mode. My only complaint is that the quick release plate is way too big for my GH5.
For a while I kept thinking it was operator error and that I was doing something wrong because all my Manfrotto products have been so reliable, but I think it's the monopod fluid base that's the problem.
I really want to love this monopod and everything else about it is wonderful, but if I can't reliable pan the camera, what good is it? I have been using this monopod configured with both a wireless Sony PXW-X200 camcorder, and on occasion even my Sony PXW-FS7 camera package for both live streaming and sports highlights.
This is my first monopod and I have to say I am amazed with all the smooth footage I was able to accomplish with this thing. I am just amazed on the smoothness that it provided to all my videos, and the flexibility with it being able to pivot is amazing. The fluid head is sooooooo smooth, I know I said smooth already but that is exactly what they should have called it SMOOTHPOD. Total recommendation... It has great height at 6'7 but at that height you can't leave it alone or it will definitely fall over! The good thing is it's very solidly built, I had confidence video taping, holding it above everyones head on the dance floor at weddings.
I am using this with a very heavy super 35 cine camera/lens combo over 30 lbs. The foot pivot works well and the head is useful but does not have a progressive tilt drag.
A 1/4"-20 and 3/8"-16 mounting thread is provided under the 500 series head should the user choose to use the monopod without a head for direct camera mounting.
